Street Fighter II ‘: Special Champion Edition (1993)

The greatest story of friendship! The young master of martial arts Ryu spends all days on the rejection of his skills. It seems that his heart has no place for a relationship … but this is not so! Little Millionaire and Playboy Ken manage to earn friendship with a harsh warrior. Every day, fighters train, compete and live together. During relaxation on hot springs, they become more than brothers ..

At this time, the imperious dictator, the leader of the secret organization, the greatest master of martial arts Bayson can no longer endure … his body is literally crowded with a mysterious psycho-blue. But even the strongest needs to rest. At any time, a man can just burst. But there is a way out! If you direct the psycho-cut inside the ryu, then you can exchange bodies with it. Harmful Ryu does not want to give flesh even for the needs of the party! Ken understands the whole complexity of the situation and does not mind letting the dictator into his body, but Bayson is already against such a bodily exchange! Here is such a fighting triangle, but I don’t know how to get out of it ..

The whole story of the fighting stations is divided into before and after the release of Street Fighter II (SF2). Capcom did not revolutionize, she simply competently collected all the successful ideas in one place. It’s hard for me to write about such a cult game. Eight playful fighters, mini-games, magnificent colorful graphics and the legendary soundtrack. For 1991 it was an unrealistic breakthrough. The closest competitor to Fatal Fury: King of Fighters was, without a doubt, a good game. SNK did everything to humiliate the first “street fighter”, but she could not even imagine what level the competitor would reach. It is funny that in Fatal Fury there were interesting ideas like 3D Arena and opponents, which were included in the Berserker mode during the match, but, the presence of only three playable fighters, completely killed the PVP component of the game.

Surprisingly, before the SF2, the developers of the fighting endings focused on solo content. For me and my friends, the fighting wings were a special genre. Tournaments took place every Friday and brought a lot of fan. The mandatory success of the victory was the possession of the cherished cartridge, because while a friend is sleeping – you are swinging. I was lucky to own the best 16-bit fighting in the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (UMK3) and SF2, so I often won. In general, everything was honest. In Mortal Kombat 2 and Primal Rage against Miha and his brother, I did not have a chance.

Of course, UMK3 was more popular, but SF2 took the honorable second place. I really liked the variety of fighters, already as a child I felt a deception in these endless shinobi and cyborgs. At that time, in SF2, each warrior was unique, their movements and blows were not repeated. SF2 was simply nice to play, the blows in UMK3 looked less realistic and torn.

SF2 was destined to become a whole series of video games that exist regardless of the flagship series. In Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, many bugs were fixed, all 4 bosses became available for PVP, mirror matches appeared. Street Fighter II Turbo brought new tricks and the legendary Turbo mode to the series. The pace of the game has grown, and the balance has become a standard for e -sports disciplines for many years.

The history of 16-bit console ports Street Fighter began in 1988. The Street Fighter port has entered the starting line of the CD Addon for PC Engine and bears the proud title of the first game released on the CD disk. This was followed by the port of the original Street Fighter II: The World Warrior on Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The pumped version of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition was supposed to reach Sega Mega Drive (SMD), but the development was very tightened, and the release had to be canceled. 16-bit Champion Edition still saw the light on PC Engine. Capcom itself was developing and simply could not cope with the iron SMD. The company also did not have time to port the Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting on time ..

It seems that the fans of the “segi” were in a losing position. But … Capcom found a way out! A collection called Street Fighter II ‘: Special Champion Edition, which contained as many as two audits of the game, was published on SMD. Port SF2 on the “Segu” as close as possible came to the arcade original. CAPCOM was able to implement expanded speed settings and tournaments. Sega provided Capcom top at that time cartridge with a record volume of 25-megabits. Moreover, 6-capad gamepads on SMD appeared exclusively thanks to SF2.

The port of Street Fighter II Turbo on Snes, although it turned out to be good, is still a head behind the release on SMD. It’s funny that some areas turned out better on SNES, while others have more details on SMD. The problem of the port on the SNES is associated with a low screen resolution and strong inhibition. I also liked the “New” music more.

Strider II (1993)

Evil Grand Master returned! If people do not accept communist ideals within 24 hours, he will explode his spaceship and tighten the earth into a black hole. To prove the seriousness of his intentions, he abducted the princess Lexia, which undermined the monarchical regime in one unfriendly state. The situation is complicated by the fact that Hiryu (the hero who overthrew the master of the master last time)-drank the non-stolen kumys and does not get off the destiny-unit. There is no way out! Hindo – a veteran and the most “pumped” member of the Straider detachment – is taken to work! Hingoi is twice as steeper than Hirya – he played half a life in the VR, served in the Soviet Army and visited the mysterious base of the “Straiers” island of Moralos! He has a story of revenge, but no one knows it, because Hingo is a real ninja! The world will be saved.

The most shameful page in the history of Sega and Capcom. It all started with the release of the first “strider” for computers and Master System. The British studio Tiertex was engaged in porting. Not that Tiertex managed well, just the production was cheap, and the sales are good. Bossov from Capcom suited this, and the Treflishas got the right to create a computer sequel Strider. Such a solution may seem strange – because a bad game could kill a popular franchise, but Capcom at that time was not interested in the PC. European developers often produced strange sequels, because of which a series of games could go into completely different directions. So Renegade from Technos reborn to Kunio-Kun, and Ocean Software had a completely different view of the series (Target: Renegade, Renegade III: The Final Chapter).

Strider II was a terrible game. Tiertex absolutely did not understand Capcom’s creation. All satire and cranberries disappeared somewhere, it feels like designers tried to make the most standard set of levels in history. In the game, literally everything inflicts damage, and managing the shinobi is unpleasant. Tiertex made a long, stuffy, confusing game with an overwhelming timer.

Alas, the game was sold and brought the creators a profit. Moreover, Tiertex was in good relations with both Sega and Capcom. When porting to SMD, the game was totally processed. Graphics and game design, in general, have become better, but this is still the level of pirate games. Strider II must literally sleep, a terrible timer kills the entire fan. The game slows down and looks worse than the first part. I was able to pass it only with the help of a Chitersky Jedi blade from the first part. Strider II – shame and a strong blow to Capcom’s reputation.

It is not surprising that Capcom decided to put the Jackpot Village Casino series in a long box, and the new game in the series was called … Strider II! Yes, the brainchild of Tiertex decided to throw out of the timline and forget. Capcom failed to repeat the success of the first part, but the game had an interesting visual style and drive gameplay. Interestingly, the best version of Strider II is the port on PlayStation 1 (PS1). The Sony ZN-2 arcade cabinet was based on iron PS1, so I did not have to redo the game. And Capcom generously added new content. Strider (2014) was the real new milestone. There was no original spirit in it, but it was a good game. It is a pity that Capcom scored on the series ..

Tiertex was one of the worst studios in the gaming industry. Her whole business was built on crooked ports for porting and computers. Without dumbnesses of conscience, Tiertex stole from Capcom the Street Fighter itself … The company owned the rights to the port of the first part and, in the wake of the popularity of Futing, decided to release its own sequel. Human Killing Machine is the honorary title of the most crooked and wretched fighting in the world.

In 2013, a scandal associated with Tiertex and Strider II surfaced. Andrew Ingram (one of the key developers Tiertex) practically finished creating his new game – t.ABOUT.P. For the sake of demonstrating gameplay, he used plugs from the first “Studer”. Seeing t.O.R., Tiertex bosses were delighted and asked Andrew to redo the game so that it looks more like Strider. Andrew did not want to do this and still demanded an increase. The denouement was predictable – the game designer was thrown away in the cold, and the game was completely redone ..

Saturday Night Slam Masters (1994)

What are thick, sweaty men who have worked out a 12-hour shift at the factory? Resling! After all, there is nothing cooler, watching the struggle in the ring of thick, sweaty men dressed in leggings. Boxing and karate are resting! But even cooler the drama and the relationship of your favorite fighters. Resesslers are fighting, friends and betraying a “sophisticated” audience in front of the eyes. Already this Saturday night, men are waiting for a real holiday. Viktor Ortega-the greatest fighter disappeared somewhere … To resolve this situation, the 8 strongest resling associations decided to arrange a tournament to choose a new King of the Ring. This battle will be legendary. The entire ring will be in a carcass for eyelashes, feathers and torn leggings. Whether we can fill the face of Ortege? We will find out this Saturday night!

Another legendary fighting game from the masters of the genre. Bosses from Capcom had a very simple and working idea: to make the perfect fighting, after which all resing associations will give their licenses for a penny. And partly Capcom succeeded in this. Saturday Night Slam Masters (SNSM) is a funny, bright, friendly to the beginning player Fighting. Definitely, the brainchild of CAPCOM on the head exceeded license products (wwf Wrestlefest, WWF RAW).

Alas, the game has several drawbacks at once that can greatly ruin the pleasure of passing. Capcom completely “scored” on license. Not a single familiar muzzle. In SNSM from the famous characters only the mayor of the year, Mike Haggar, who became famous in the legendary Final Fight. I remember how cool it was to roll everyone in WWF Wrestlemania for my beloved coffin … It was difficult for the target community to understand such a game.

Capcom tried to simplify management as much as possible, but at the same time maintain the depth. The entire combat system holds on two buttons. Jump and blow. But do not write off to throw slippers in Capcom! All blows are carried out through the movements buttons. Fighters are distinguished by dimensions, and in the game the balance is felt. But still 2 buttons for fighting watering are too few … Capcom has driven herself into an artificial framework. Yes, the SNSM has a capture button, but most of its functionality can be carried out through a blow.

The denouement of the game was a huge minus. We defeated the final boss, hold the cup, and then a true champion appears, a man from the screensaver – Victor Ortega. And on this SNSM just ends … The face of the children was presented? You can’t play for Victor Ortega and even fight him! Children spent the clock to unlock the greatest fighter in the world, the main symbol of the series, and he simply was not in the game.

A control blow was 3 Count Bout from SNK. It is difficult to say whether the competitor had an inside, or the great minds think the same way, but very similar fighting was released a few months earlier than SNSM. In 3 Count Bout, more management buttons were involved, more fighters and Arena, and the game also had giant colorful sprites. The game was unbalanced and a jerk, and the combat system was built from QTE. Two games interfered with each other in the struggle for the hearts of gamers.

It may seem that SNSM was a failure. But this is not so. There is some prohibitive number of bad games in the genre. Capcom was able to make a high -quality 2×2 combat system, the game has just a great visual style and cool music. If I had such a cartridge in childhood, I would play it to the holes. WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game came out much later, and it is very unfortunate that SNSM has not gained well -deserved popularity.

But Capcom tried to save the situation! After 6 months from the release of SNSM, an improved and expanded version called Muscle Bomber Duo: Ultimate Team Battle came out. Well, as an improved and expanded … The popular and highpine regime 1V1 was mercilessly cut out of the game. The altered name caused confusion among the fans, and the main symbol of Faiting, Viktor Ortega, again refused to go to the ring … Many fans were disappointed with this approach.

But was the game bad? No! Capcom has greatly processed fighters management. Now the capture button is fully involved in the game. Each room received new movements, and the combat system literally blossomed. Add to this the opportunity to play for the bosses, “mirror” matches, and you will get almost the perfect maternity pupit. It would seem that the perfect formula was found, and the series should wait for a carefree future ..

In 1994, a full-fledged sequel called Ring of Destruption: Slam Masters II was released on the CPS-2 Arcade Cabinet. Yes, Capcom changed the name again … although the name was Slam Masters, and the number 2, many gamers of those years simply did not understand that they had continued their favorite game. They can be understood, because the gameplay and the appearance of the game have changed dramatically. Mode 2V2 would be cut out, the movement in the ring was completely removed. Slam Masters II is a regular, classic 2D fighting.

Still, Slam Masters II was a good game. I liked the emphasis on captures, as well as attacks from the ring of ringes. The game teaches to keep the distance and accurately calculate the distance, because each digression can develop into a rapid attack. But even in Slam Masters II there were new fighters and special attacks for veterans, colorful graphics and a slaughter soundtrack. Finally we can play Ortega! Alas, Slam Masters II was the last game in the series. Other Capcom fighting wings were more popular.

But what about 16-bit ports? In 1993, the light saw a version for SNES. It was a good port: 2V2 mode remained in place, and the game feels like an arcade original. It’s a pity, only the graphics were strongly compressed. Spells of fighters look unnatural.

The Fans “Segi” had to wait, SNSM was released in December 1994. And again Capcom released an unusual extended version! Two exclusive fighters from Muscle Bomber Duo became playable, while mirror matches and mode 2V2 on SMD are absent. Instead, Capcom introduced a new exclusive mode called Death Match. The essence of Death Match was in a special arena, where the ringes are replaced with prickly wire. This mode cannot be played with the bot, and in 3 Count Bout, the earnings of the rental were more interesting, but it will go for a variety. In general, graphics and gameplay on SMD have undergone slight changes. But they benefited the game, and the port in any case turned out to be unique.

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (1994)

Finally the time has come for a new generation! The transition to CPS-2 definitely benefited the game. Graphics and balance have reached the ideal, and the series was at the peak of its popularity. Super Street Fighter II was positioned as a full -fledged new part. Why change something when you already have the perfect fighting? Old characters received updated movements, and 4 new fighters joined the confrontation!

When porting to the fourth generation, one unpleasant detail became clear. SMD could not stretch the entire power of the Super Street Fighter II … Throughout history, Capcom received from the “sega” top (the largest volume) cartridges. But SMD had a limit of 4 megabytes. Games of greater volume could work incorrectly on the prefix.

But the way out was found! Memory Management Controller – Memory Management Controller. The cartridge was divided into two blocks, and the MMC chip switched them at the right time. Thanks to this technology, it was possible to achieve a record size of 5 megabytes! The largest licensed game for SMD.

Crazy volume has a positive effect on quality. Graphics and music were completely redesigned, the gameplay Super Street Fighter II is far superior to the previous version. It is a pity that I did not have a similar game in childhood … The confrontation with the SNES turned out to be more equal. Both versions have their pros and cons of. But still I choose “Segu”. Despite the shortcomings of the color palette, the port on SMD is felt closer to the arcade original, and the music and sounds have received better converting. On this, the history of the fourth generation of consoles is coming to an end.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo – almost exceeds the Super Street Fighter II by the scale of the change! The return of the legendary TURBO mode, the balance has become more focused on the defensive style of the game and, finally, the strongest person in the world – the new MASCOT of the Akum series. I like that there are many ways to return the initiative in the Super Street Fighter II, the old camp system could often confuse. The most important change was the appearance of the Super strip, filling it out, each character can perform a super-gear that causes huge damage.

There were so many changes that even Capcom bosses were not sure of such large -scale reforms, so Super Street Fighter II Turbo has alternative versions of all characters with a classic balance! Classic and updated fighters could fight each other. Perhaps this decision was the most ambiguous. All CAPCOM attempts to create the perfect balance went ashes. The series began to dig inside itself, each time becoming further from the new players. E -sports community was divided.

The final blow for the series was the release of the film “Street Fighter”. Capcom got the opportunity to create a game in which Jean-Claude Van Damm himself was! Well, or a very similar stuntman … Capcom did not have enough experience in creating fighting playing with fully digitized actors, so Incredible Technologies was responsible for the development of the arcade version. Street Fighter: The Movie can calmly compete with Human Killing Machine for the title of worst game. The game was based on Super Street Fighter II Turbo, but Incredible Technologies was able to ruin literally everything that we loved in a “street fighter”. Interestingly, the console versions of Street Fighter: The Movie developed Capcom itself, and the games looked like a Super Street Fighter II Turbo with an alternative visual style (albeit with a big stretch).

Capcom decided to move the flagship series forward. But SF2 was destined to return. In 2003, Hyper Street Fighter II was released. We can say that it was a collection that allows you to choose a fighter from any version of SF2. In general, Hyper Street Fighter II was a boring game that absolutely did not develop a series. The game received a port on CPS-2, but it does not represent any interest. The balance was a deplorable sight, but as a collection will go.

In 2008, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 reached the Super Street Fighter II Turbo remake called Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. We will find an orientation on online, updated visual style and improved balance! At the time of the release I really liked the new graphics. Favorite game received a worthy port on the seventh generation of consoles! At that time, I could not even think that a game with new graphics could yield in something. It is also worth noting that I had a Street Fighter II ‘: Special Champion Edition on SMD, and I have not seen the original Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

Today I think that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has gone too far from the original. The graphics are too sharp and detailed. New balance sheet fixes were strange and not too significant.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers

Finally, in 2017, Ultra Street Fighter II was released: The Final Challengers exclusively at Nintendo Switch. It was, to put it mildly, a strange game. The visual style was taken from the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, while the balance was closer to Super Street Fighter II … Capcom tried to do something with graphics-the game was subjected to total change in color scheme, and the entire interface menu was redone. It got better, but to release in 2017 ashamed. The most important positive change was the addition of 3 new fighters. Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers – Holtura, but it moves a series forward.

In 1996, Capcom decided to “shake old people” and released Street Fighter Alpha 2 on Snes. This was due to the fact that the games on the prefix Nintendo were still well sold, and the revolutionary S-DD1 chip was supposed to solve problems with performance. Snes did not use addons as a SMD, and the release of cartridges that took part of the calculations on themselves was commonplace.

It was a great era! Sega with great efforts began to change the situation in the console market. Capcom herself ported her own games, and SEGA was ready to change the shape of the gamepad for her sake. In the final issue, the last Capcom games for SMD and Sega CD await us. Until new meetings!
